Jesus said, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matt. 6:33
Happy New Year! The new year always feels like a fresh start. Resolutions are made and goals are listed – but let us keep in mind the most important thing you can do in 2015: sit at Jesus' feet and hear His word.
Hear these words from your Heavenly Father's heart to you: “Just come spend time with Me. Don’t fix up. You can’t do it on your own anyway. I didn’t want you to serve Me, work for Me, or to be a great blessing for Me. I just wanted to be with you. Let’s just waste time together. Let’s take extravagant, unhurried time together.” (quote by Pastor Jim Borchert).
What a comfort knowing that you can come just as you are to be loved a good, faithful, and perfect Heavenly Father.
Scripture illustrates god’s desire for you to sit in his presence with a story about Mary and Martha. “now it happened as they went that he entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:38-42).
Prioritizing works over worship backfired on Martha, causing her distraction and worry. Jesus commended Mary for choosing the One thing that is needed: sitting at his feet and hearing his Word. there is so much waiting for you in God’s presence: peace, joy, clarity, provision, strength—everything you need!
What do you do in his presence? Be still. sit. Listen. read his Word. Pour out your heart to him. Perhaps read a chapter of Trading Up. Receive. Put the cell-phone in the other room. Just like Mary, let’s be “One thing” King’s daughters. Wake up every morning to sit at Jesus’ feet and hear his Word.
God guarantees you will be blessed. Jesus said, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matt. 6:33
